Fall 2010 Programs Theodicy: The problem of evil is endlessly fascinating and frustrating, and no final answer is possible.
Still, some solutions to the problem are more adequate than others, and clear thinking about the question can be of
great value when life takes a bitter turn. Prof. Brian Jones will examine various answers proposed
to the problem, focusing primarily on how it is addressed in the Bible. He will propose a new answer to the problem,
especially suited to a post-Darwinian world, based upon God’s speeches in Job 38–42.
The Protocols, a forgery fabricated by Czarist Russia, became the bible of modern antisemitism. It
propounded the idea of a worldwide Jewish conspiracy dedicated to global domination and the destruction of Christian civilization.
The Protocols sparked a series of pogroms and helped shape the thinking of right-wing movements in Europe,
the Middle East and the United States. In this talk, Dr. Hal Wohl traces the history of the
tract, its creation and its reception to the present day.
Ethics At the End of Life Canterbury Forum programs begin at 7:00 PM. They take place in Will Hall, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2410 Melrose Drive, Cedar Falls. There is NO admission charge. Click on the "Directions" link in the navigation bar on this page for information on how to find St. Luke's. |
